Picked up a FLIRC IR receiver and it works great with the Fire TV. I have to say that although the concept of using phones and tablets as additional remotes sounds good (and does work), they are not really optimal for remote control use. Amazon Echo/Alexa Can Turn On FireTV Through Harmony Remote/Hub and IFTTT - Fire TV. Since the Fire TV remote does not have a stop button, I used the FLIRC to assign one of the Sideclick buttons to act as a standard media Stop button, which works perfectly in Kodi.

If you have the original Harmony Touch you can also pair it with the hub to give pretty much full 'Harmony One Ultimate' functionality and you get the rather handy simple remote too. FLIRC, which adds IR capabilities to the Fire TV, lets you assign any number of Fire TV commands to various IR remote button presses. The Smart Hub is a great concept though and the basic model with a 'simple' remote is a very nice package at a good price.

Only the Harmony Smart Hubs can talk to the Fire TV directly - that rules out the majority of Harmony remotes already out there including the original Harmony One (the current 'Harmony One Ultimate' is basically an updated Touch plus Smart Hub and bears no resemblance to the first model to bear the name).įLIRC will allow any IR based remote to control the Fire TV. the new fire tv 4k remote works which runs on wifi which makes it a better operation than the logitech touch im using, faster and slicker and also better than the controller (easier to hold) for general usage, plex, youtube, kodi. The FLIRC works with a long list of other devices as well, from PCs and Laptops to Amazon Fire TV and Android tablets it really is the Swiss army knife of TV remote solutions FLIRC Aluminium Raspberry Pi Case.
